My favorite drink is water and isotonic. Some people ask me if I’m not afraid of the negative impact of sports drinks on my health. In this article I will try to explain why I reach for them so readily.
At the beginning I would like to clarify that sports drinks are not the same as energy drinks. Many people put in front of them an equal sign, which is a big mistake. Energy drink is to stimulate, so to add energy. If I want to achieve this effect, it will reach for a cup of coffee, because energy drinks contain a lot of chemical additives.
In contrast to the energy drinks, isotonics are intended to complement water, electrolytes, vitamins and minerals level in the organism. After drinking this beverage there is no effect of stimulation. Therefore, their composition is also different. According to specialists, isotonics are significantly safer for human health than energy drinks.
I reach for them, especially after training, because with the sweat we lose a lot of water and electrolytes. This deficiency must be quickly replenished. It is not without significance that I also like the taste of isotonics. I think it tastes much better than water, which quickly bored me.
Most often I buy ready-made sports drinks, but sometimes I prepare my own isotonic drink. Contrary to appearances, this is not a difficult task. The only ingredients we need is water, citrus juice and a pinch of salt. Of course, this is the easiest recipe which you can modify. To isotonic drink you can add, for example, sugar or glucose or a few leaves of mint.
